![]() (or you ears ) įew people will believe that the differences we talk about -and then with the example of Foobar vs. Now don't get scared, because most probably it won't be your equipment. So, without saying it too loud if you can't discern between those settings within XXHE itself, first something else is the matter. That is, I -so far- did not meet anyone *not* agreeing that manipulating those parameters matter. But here goes :įirst there is the stupid theory that actually you *must* be able to discern, because of stuff like the Q1 slider (which influences jitter explicitly) and besides that the various system-wide priority and processor core "appointment" settings. I'm sorry that I did not answer that question, but wanted to stay away from being commercial about my own product. Lastly, you are not telling if you perform any upsampling software or hardware (i'm pretty sure the Esoteric DAC does 24/192). I think that the Esoteric DAC is the bottleneck in your chain. So Maybe you have to keep that motu (or the fireface) for a while more. And I recommend you to stay away from USB. I am afraid that it will be difficult to find a firewire input in an audiophile-oriented DAC. So you are shoping for the same kind of DAC that I want. You probably would like to know what I read a couple of days ago: Me, i'm happy if i can come to the same conclusions that you did with your computer transport. I havent installed the xo3 and xo supply yet in mine, but I will comment readily on the difference in SQ when I'll do.įor 24/96 master files wav/flac, I think the only comparable transport is an Esoteric UX-01/03 using DVD-Audio (NOT SACD). I'm pretty sure your transport is working fine. IMHO, there is a potentially lucrative market here for the likes of Meitner, Weiss and Zanden (and Esoteric, of course!). I'm currently looking for an audiophile DAC with USB and/or IEEE1394 input that will out-perform my current MOTU/Esoteric combo, but haven't come across anything. If more and more companies start offering these downloads, I think the audiophile community is simply going to have to start taking more of an interest in PC music. Well, I reckon you get all of this (and maybe more?) by extracting and playing wav/flac files well.Īs for 24/96 FLAC files, I'd venture that no transport on the planet, modded or not, comes anywhere close to the sound quality you can get from them. You reckon that the modded version sounds "even more relaxed, richer and bigger". No, I'm pretty sure it's doing a sterling job, given the constaints of the ancient 'red book' standard.īut as you yourself admit, the standard P70 is not perfect. It literally blows my Pioneer DVD, acting as a transport, out of the water. It's dead silent when playing CDs and handles (my wife's!) badly scratched CDs easily. I don't think there's anything wrong with my transport though. I've not heard any modded versions, so can't comment on their performance. I agree, the standard P70 is a stunning transport. On a final note, I could not discern any difference between XXHighend (engine #3) and Foobar (ASIO) - both are superb and better my Esoteric P70 transport playing the same CD. I'd love to hear others' views/experiences. Everything I've read about Vista suggests that the removal of KMixer has removed the necessity of using an ASIO driver with Foobar. Here's what happens with the three audio applications I've tried:ġ) XXHighend - bit-perfect output only with Engine #3Ģ) Windows Media Player - not bit-perfect (irrespective of which settings I use)ģ) Foobar - only bit-perfect if ASIO driver is used I determine whether I'm getting a bit-perfect output by playing an HDCD-encoded WAV file (extracted using EAC) and seeing if I can invoke the HDCD processing in my D70 (a little blue light comes on when this happens). The digital audio signal is fed to the D70 via an AES/EBU cable. The 896HD is slaved to the D70's wordclock output. Hypex UCD700 HG amplifiers (x8 - four per channel) Pass Labs XVR1 analogue crossovers (x2 - one per channel) I thought I'd share my experience in getting a bit-perfect output using Vista, for anyone who may be interested.

![]() In practical terms, television shows had historically been too cumbersome to sell directly to customers on home media. Until relatively recently, syndication was treated as the be-all and end-all of television production. Syndication was also a driver in the episodic nature of most shows in the late eighties and early nineties the idea being that viewers should need to watch a syndicated show everyday to understand a given episode. The more episodes had been produced, the longer the show could run in syndication without repeating itself the more attractive the package was. Until relatively recently, the ideal was to produce a large volume of episodes that could be sold into syndication, thus allowing old shows to keep earning a profit. Popular returning shows tend to generate more news and more coverage than new shows. Creating new shows takes an investment of time and money in something that has (statistically speaking) a low chance of success, while keeping an old successful show on the air comes with a built-in audience and a known brand. The most obvious was that a successful show continues to make money for all involved. Under the classic model of television, shows would continue for as long as was deemed viable. ![]() However, it also affected how television shows approach endings, in that audiences came to expect that their shows would have clear delineated endings. In recent years, it has become increasingly trendy to think of television as a format that is “novelistic.” This attitude reflects itself in a number of different ways, most notably in the diminished importance of the episode as its own story and in the increase importance of the episode as an installment or unit of story. In some ways, this theory was rooted in a contemporary understanding of how television works. Perhaps Mulder would finally get to tackle the threat of colonisation that had lingered over the show since Talitha Cumi. Perhaps they would reconcile with William. Gillian Anderson had even suggested as much in some of her early public appearances following the announcement. Upon the announcement of the six episode limited series, there was a sense that Chris Carter might use the episodes to bring closure to the characters and the show, that this might legitimately represent the end for Mulder and Scully. A 94-year-old man was determined to make a 2,200 mile road trip, hauling a trailer, by himself. From its inception in 1998, the series produced 123 stories. This made Hartman traveled around the country, from Hawaii to Alaska, from Buckhannon, West Virginia to Miami, Florida. Upon arrival, Hartman would find a phone book, and choosing a name at random, would try to find a person who would agree to be interviewed and tell their “story”. Hartman would toss a dart over his shoulder at a map of the United States, and then travel to wherever the dart landed. He first experimented with a few stories on Public Eye. SCEA is in WAY more debt than Microsoft, even after the 360's RROD issues. ![]() SO Why? Why do PS3 fans do it so much? Because their overpriced, format-doomed console isn't a sucess. We see them every single day, and 9/10 times their maniuplated. It's all they've got! Prepare for an onslaught of comparison videos. What's the point? The PS3's fanbase FEEDS off of articles like these. I'm here to tell all Xbox Fanboys one thing. My bet is that the RSX/SPU render array will soon have a lead advantage over a singular xenon. GPUS are constantly starved for workand don't even perform to potential on either console. it's going to take a lot longer to figure out how this architecture works and I bet one of the surprises you will be hearing pretty soon is that textures won't be AS memory dependent on the ps3 compared to a traditional 360/PC architecture.Īlso as I've read, it isn't video memory that is holding graphics back, so much as CPU/GPU communication bandwidth limitations. But the ps3 isn't a traditional PC as many have said before. Now for the memory limitations, I can respect your argument and certainly agree from a traditional PC expert standpoint. But these additional updates from Sony are showing that there's a lot more to the ps3 hardware including a previously non-existant hardware scalar that now is partially usable.Īnyway, my point if you read my post earlier is that Sony did take the high road in indicating ON THE BOXES that games not 1080p native aren't listed as 1080p, unlike MS. I'd have agreed with you on your assessment. Thewhoopimen 5143d ago (Edited 5143d ago ) Some might get stretched and pulled through up/down scaling. Some might run a few pixels less than standard resolutions (like 1280x708 etc). Some have chose to run with less AA samples, others might drop to sub HD. Developers make compromises in order to fit their entire game work load. It is PARAMOUNT to know that these specs do not guarantee that games will be rendered at the resolutions people quote. That can be later upscaled to 1080 via HANA. The ideal resolution most 360 games aim for is 1280x720 with 4xMSAA. The framebuffer gives Xenos the bandwidth it needs to render scenes in tiles. ![]() The 360 uses 10MB for its framebuffer, all other game data (textures, levels, sounds) are loaded into the shared memory. X360 has 512MB GDDR3 shared between Xenon and Xenos + 10MB EDRAM dedicated to Xenos The memory is STILL hardwire programmed to be dedicated to their respectful processors. So, RSX may be aided by Cell, which in turn uses that XDR pool. Cell/RSX has been worked on in such a way that it could be considered a combined rendering array. People say that RSX has access to both, but that's only partially true. PS3 has 256MB XDR dedicated to Cell + 256MB GDDR3 dedicated to RSX To say that EITHER console is TRUE 1080p is false.
